From what I've read, isn't that kind of the point of her character? Also, isn't most of their circumstances beyond their control? Like, yeah, they had some impact, but they all got dealt a shitty hand by capitalism.

I thought it was very deliberate that she and Ali had the most sympathetic reasons to win, in that neither of them had gotten to where they are by their own mistakes but by circumstance and a shit hand, and that's why it sucks that they don't make it to the end because life is incredibly unfair, doubly so under capitalism which the show is criticizing. I don't think anyone being sad about her not making it is 'doing it wrong' but responding correctly to the writers intent.

If they're saying it's bad writing then they're wrong yes, but being upset about her fate in general is fine. I was sad for her too even though I knew it was unlikely she would win.

The point is that most of the characters got where they were in a situation desperate enough to play the games because because of disproportionate societal punishment over making a bad choice out of desperation. Gi-hun made a bad choice by turning to gambling, but he did so because he was poor and that wasn't his fault, and gambling becomes an addiction. Only a fixation on complete moral purity, a belief that only the ones who have never done anything wrong in their lives deserve not to suffer would think Sae-byeok or Ali "deserved" the win more than anyone else. And I don't think that's the opinion the show wants you to have.

Ah see whereas I think the show does want you to consider them more 'worthy' to win in order to highlight how unfair the game(capitalism/life) really is. I'm not saying they are myself, I think all the characters have their good parts and bad parts, except for Ali that man was a sweetheart, and that's completely deliberate too. Outside of the OTT ViP's the core cast aren't good or evil because that binary doesn't work irl. We're all a mix of everything.

gi-hun, sang-woo, not ali, not saew-byeok, not ji-yeong, not il-nam... certainly not deok-su. we don't learn how mi-nyeo got into her situation.

Or maybe we're not bitter about people ending up in shit situations because they're born into it and do literally nothing wrong there getting help like you seem to be. Christ, OP, you sound incredibly bitter about her being pretty more than anything.

did you think you were making some profound point or something? That possibility went out the window in the second episode when everyone was able to leave the game and then willingly returned.

People don't root for them all teaming up and getting out alive because that's not the kind of show it is. It telegraphs that pretty early on, so anyone for whom that would be the only satisfying ending is likely to drop out in the first or second episode, if they start watching at all.

It would be the ideal ending, but once you know that's off the table, it's pretty normal to pick a fave to root for.

You're supposed to feel bad when she doesn't win.

Ji Young was my favorite character, and she's just as pretty. That was some kick-ass acting in her final scenes.

This is one of the rare fandoms where a female character is more popular than all the guys and a f/f ship is more popular than m/m. You sound mad that people aren't worshipping cock this time around :/

I didn't know it was rare for a female character to be the fandom's favorite. It's pretty normal in my fandoms. You sound like you seek out fandoms with sausage-fest casts and write screeds on the fandom's hatred of women when they write more fic for Male lead/Other male lead than Token female love interest/Her best friend who appeared in one episode.

You don't have to agree with those thinkpiecers' takes, but your thinkpiece boils down to "this character shouldn't be your fave because she's pretty", which depresses me.
