Okay, first thing: feminism and the feminist movement helps all women. This does not mean all women should, in any capacity, support it. Expecting them too and putting the bar there that they are supposed to meet is pretty much the antithesis of what feminism should be, in that it is there to allow the women the freedom of autonomy and equality.

Second: No, we don't need to work together. A lot of the arguments among feminists have a lot to do with intersectionality and priorities. There are a lot of issues that need to be fought out and debated and dealt with, and this whole "set aside our differences and work together" usually costs one sub-group of women in the long run, and if it hurts any women, then those women should not be expected to support it just to give off the image of a united front.

I understand what you're saying, but I do think that we need to work together to support other women who are fighting for causes we can all benifit from. Of course we're not all going to agree, and should debate things vigerously, but it is hard to get anything done when there is no agreement whatsoever. Sometimes you need to make priorities just to get things done. And I think that has been the biggest problem with the movement.

And I think the biggest problem with the movement is the pervasive attitude that it's perfectly okay to throw some sub-group under the bus just to "get things done." That kind of thinking is what breeds the deep resentment some feminists feel toward one another, and I don't blame them for it, and I won't, not even for a second. It's all well and good to sit there and say "why can't we all just get along" when, from what I can see, you've never really looked at actual inter-feminist debate.

And saying all women need to do this is kind of insulting. What all women need to do is make up their own minds as to what issues they wish to support, not be guilted and cajoled into working for something that might not actually help them.
