I flunked my way out of my first try at four year university, but I still remember learning about the Deccan Traps in one of my classes. Wasn't there a theory that the meteorite impact that killed the dinosaurs basically sent a shockwave through the earth and punched hell volcanoes out the other side?

But the amount we're seeing now is fine, no 30,000 year eruptions or Yellowstone supervolcano in the next eon or so, please.

That was theory for a while, but with more refined dating the dates don't really match up as they were going for a while, as were dinosaur extinctions, before the impact delivered the final coup de grace. The current theory is that it is what is now the Reunion Hotspot was under what would become India due to plate tectonics.
