I only read one Xanth book, in which a woman is described as looking "wrong" until another woman takes her aside and puts makeup on her.

My best summary of that entire series is that he really just wanted to copy Discworld and couldn't.

The earliest Xanth books predate Discworld by years - I think they were working with similar tropes and Pratchett was just so much better at them (and far less sexist and creepy).
