Haven't seen this one, though I'm hearing very mixed things about it.

I'd planned to skip watching this one even before the controversy. None of his newer Netflix specials have been that funny, IMO. They're mostly... well, like the secret said. Lots of rambling, the jokes seem really lazy and unfunny and some aren't even really jokes, just randomly namedropping someone and snickering.

Yeah. I haven't watched the newest special - I watched part of the first one he put out on Netflix and I decided I wasn't going to watch any more of them. It just seems like he's not the same guy as he was. And that's not so surprising, he took a decade off doing standup and he's old and rich now, and standup is fucking hard to do well.

Doing standup well means constantly touring and constantly changing the act and workshopping new material. A lot of the current crop of whiny old manbabies just don't want to seem to put that effort in like the old borscht belt guys did. And there are fewer big venues for them to do their acts in without taking a big hit on the ticket sales too. It is gonna either take him a lot of work, or a big hit on his income, to workshop material from a decade away, and he doesn't want to seem to do either. Plus, I think, he's seen how well the reactionary grift has gone for the likes of Trump and I think he kinda wants a slice of that low effort hate based income only without admitting to himself that he wants a slive of that hate based income. Whatever it is, he needs to start owning his own failings.

I think this secret is very accurate.

Dave Chappelle's latest really wasn't funny. I laughed at a few isolated jokes, but most of it was a defensive rant about transphobia/LGBT discrimination not being that bad because black people have it worse and gay people don't do enough for them.

Like, okay? A fuckload of people turned out for George Floyd protests, cops are disinvited to Pride. I think you need to worry about your hetero MAGA neighbors and fans more than the gay and trans community, which includes racial minorities. NONE of those fuckers will stand up for you, Dave. Well, maybe you, because you're rich and you used to be funny.

I don't have much of an opinion on his most recent stand up, i didn't watch his show and I don't plan on watching any of his specials.

But I read a bit of an interview where he said something like "I can't be "punching down" and transphobic because I don't see them as lesser than me" and it's like DUDE I can't believe you reinvented "I don't see color".

Chill out. Boomer is a state of being, and he’s acting like one. Nobody is literally calling him(or you, since that seems to be why you got so pissy to throw the term “hard of thinking” at them) a baby boomer. They’re pointing out that he’s using punching down boomer humor.

And slur? Get a grip. Boomer isn’t a slur. Ageism is a whole different concept than calling someone a boomer in terms of the way it’s used online.
