My general fanfic consumption tends toward the, shall we say, adult end of the spectrum. But when I'm depressed, all I want to read is gen* fix it fics. I haven't read any smut, or at least any I liked well enough to bookmark, in over a year. *may include romantic relationships, but they aren't the primary focus

I'm right there with you, OP. I've been basically off smut for months now, with recs just piling up in my "marked for later". All I want to read these days is fix-it fics and taking-care-of-each-other fluff (especially found family!)

I'm kind of the opposite. When I'm less depressed, and I have the time, I have it in me to read longer, chapter-length, plotty fics. When I'm depressed, I only read either smut or one-shot darkfic.

Thank you, OP, for the affirmation. My fic is 98% gen, slice-of-life (the one slash is T-rated fade-to-black). Back in the day (20+ years ago), it seemed like slash was the be-all and end-all of fandom and fanfic and got all the plaudits and discussions and recs; I really struggled with feeling that my stories weren't "worthy". It took many years for me to talk myself out of that perception, and it still pokes its head up once in a while to bug me.

You probably don't read in my fandom (there are a LOT to grab our attention), but I really appreciate knowing that there are people who find fluffy / gen / found family / friendship stories their cup of tea.

If it helps any -- a fandom friend who read and wrote lots of explicit slash back in the same day, recently told me that she now also prefers comfy, cuddly stories, with the slash non-explicit if it's present. We all change over time; I'm just grateful there's something for every taste.

I love fix-it fics (if they're not super black-and-white/everyone is a fluffy hurt puppy) kind of fix-its. I can go with gen, too, though if they're shipping my favorite 'ships, I'm good with that.

I just can't seem to FIND these kind of fix-its!!

This is cheesy and fluffy and feels like illustrated fanfic. And I LOVE it!

I want to believe that it'll get me into "real comics" of the characters, but I'll probably just keep reading fic without making an effort at consuming the actual canon.

Bonus secret: Now I really want a similarly fic-tastic comic series of the Avengers all living in the Tower together.

I think the reboot is still finding its stride, as well as suffering from the generally more subdued tone on panel shows in the COVID era. But damn I wish they had Jamali as captain instead of Daisy. I eventually warmed to her on Taskmaster, but I still hate her here.

Secret because before I'd actually seen the new show, I dismissed all the criticism as standard "women aren't funny" nonsense. I want to like her, but I just really really don't.

Oh, I absolutely do believe that some of them are doing it on purpose. They get a lot of benefits from keeping young people in a such a constant of fear and reactivity they're seeing pedophilia everywhere. There is a shit ton of grooming going on there: "I'm a SAFE adult, not like those dangerous freaks. I'll protect you. You were smart to come to me. See, look how gross their work is. Look at this child porn, isn't this horrible? Here's some more. Aren't you disgusted? Come with me and let's find all the nasty porn together and tell the artists to kill themselves."

Speaking as someone who hates antis, you're not being an anti. I think your friend could have made an honest mistake in not thinking the bullying in MHA would upset you, but if you told them it did after watching it and they kept trying to get you into the show, that's just them being shitty.

Personally, I'm in some fandoms for shows and games with really graphic violence and triggering themes that my friends have told me they won't touch, and in some cases (regarding the themes) I want to tell them "it gets better/it's not what it seems like" but also I don't know for sure that they'll agree and even if they did eventually agree that it gets better, I wouldn't want them to sit through the initial upsetting part just to get there. It's okay to have different boundaries from your friends, and if your friend doesn't get that, they're probably better off choosing the ship over you.
