I would actually like to see someone tackle a more historically accurate William Wallace that actually includes Andrew de Moray. There's very little known about either of them in the actual written record but it's ripe for some historical fiction bromance if you so desire.

Andrew de Moray is quite an interesting figure by himself because he escaped captivity in England and returned to north east Scotland to fuck shit up while his father remained in the Tower of London. Then he joined forces with Wallace. Had Moray not died after Stirling Bridge, who knows how things would've turned out? It's certainly implied he had more clout with the Scottish nobility and was perhaps the brains of the outfit more so than Wallace.

John de Graham was equally ignored by said Australian fuckwit iirc. There are so many Wallace allies who died for that cause that THAT film barely touches.

The Bruce movie is Outlaw King. It isn't completely wrong, although the end is pure Hollywood. If The Bruce ever had Edward II at his mercy he wouldn't have just kicked him up the arse and let him run off. And they really toned Sir James Douglas down a lot for the movie, the guy was even more OTT in real life. But they did at least have The Battle of Loudoun Hill take place at Loudoun Hill itself. So that is something.

The down side is it is on Netflix, so you may want to pirate that puppy.

With someone's first fic, it'll still have a unique (?) story so that's something new you haven't seen before at least, even if the quality isn't amazing. I think a lot of first art is basically headshots or redraws which aren't anything new...

I get zines limiting their participants since physical products means limited space but is it fair to put a quality bar for exchanges/big bangs? I wouldn't know how to judge that, but at the same time I feel bad if a fantastic and experienced fic author got paired with a newbie artist...

DA - I think it's also just a limitation of the medium. Let's say a fic is like a movie. So maybe the dialogue is clunky and the special effects are cheesy, but the chemistry between the main characters is good and that one explosion sequence near the end is really cool, so it's worth sitting through even if you wouldn't recommend it without a caveat. Art's a single frame from that movie, and if it's a close-up of the bad CG monster or that one moment of cringe dialogue that made your soul leave your body, you're not going to walk away happy even if you know that there's potential there.

That's really the issue with exchanges/big bangs, because it would suck to spend a ton of time writing a long, immersive fic only to be paired with an artist whose art is half-traced official art badly scanned on regular paper and colored in crayon, especially if all the other fics got really nice looking art. Same with exchanges, I feel like it would be unfair for one artist to draw this lovely detailed piece and get shaky MS Paint art in return. It might suck for new artists but they're just not skilled enough to handle that sort of thing (and I would feel the same with fics, a newbie fic writer with poor grammar and bad plotting entering a big bang and paired with an experienced fanartist wouldn't really be fair either).

This is all TikTok music that came up recently on my YouTube recommendations and I'm so glad I clicked it! Also Ezekiel's "Help Yourself". I'm glad these young people are out here making music and PinkPanthress' sound just takes me back -- i think someone mentioned UK garage, it definitely fuses some sounds from back then and the words are very now. The bonus is a YouTube comment mentioned the first song i listed here was inspired by a Harry x Reader x Zayn fic lmao and the song itself sounds so pretty but she's singing about stalking lmao. But I can guarantee it's on my fic writing playlist. And i just really like it.

In short fandom tiktok finally found me!

I loved this season, but yes, the whole OT3 thing was a BAD look. He's fluent enough if fandom to know what baiting is, and friendly enough with fandom that they trusted him not to bait. Most of the anger I think comes from people being a) mad he betrayed that trust and b) fear he baited intentionally.

That being said, I think I get what he meant that statement to mean, and I hope it's a lesson in phrasing things better.
