That was me when I realized Cape Feare was a (great) parody of Cape Fear. Granted, I was was too young to know about Cape Fear.

Honestly even after all these years and having watched a lot of "classic" films/TV, I still catch some references in early (90s) Simpsons that I either hadn't noticed before or was too young at the time I first watched it to appreciate. Don't feel bad about it.

It can be quite fun actually. I imagine a lot of the references in the newer seasons would be lost on me because I've just lost interest in The Simpsons in general. I'm not even sure if the show even does that stuff to the same level anymore.

Reminded of how, after years of hearing that a particular song was incredibly problematic and thus never seeking it out, I heard Weird Al's new "original" song "Word Crimes" and thought it was very clever and I wonder where he got the idea to make a song like that.

I never understood that scene in the same episode where they hide the newborn pups all over the room like Easter eggs. Hope no kid watching tried to do that with real newborn puppies.
