What's happening? I googled it but I couldn't find anything.

Off the top of my head Nirvana in Fire was pulled, Zhang Zehan (an actor portraying one of the main Not-A-Couple-Really from Word of Honor) was as far as I can tell all but actually disappeared because of actions and photographs he took while he was in Japan several years ago but definitely staring in a BL drama didn't help, and new conduct laws have been passed condemning "unmasculine" behavior or some bullshit like that.

I have a hard time believing that Zhang Zehan was really, genuinely in trouble because he had the temerity to have his photo taken in a park that was near a Japanese shrine that honored members of the Japanese military. All the accusations sound like making mountains out of molehills, which makes me think the government is making an example out of him.

The government is absolutely making an example out of him, but the Yasukuni Shrine is genuinely offensive to a lot of countries who were invaded by Japan in the first half of the 20th century. That's not new or controversial.

Yeah, this. He isn't the only famous person that has gotten backlash for having their photo taken there.

It's not just "unmasculine" behaviour, it's also feminine looking men. I've seen articles about CPop stars hitting the gym to bulk up and change their image because of the new laws. It's just bullshit, and it's the LGBTQI+ people who are going to suffer the most.
