I feel like most people are kind of judgmental and holier than thou in their teenage years, and it's pretty common to slowly grow out of it. In my late teens (and early twenties tbh) I definitely thought I understood ethics and a lot of social issues better than other people, and by explaining that shit to people in fucking blog posts I was providing some kind of service or something.

I'm sure I made some reasonable points back then, but I'm also sure a lot of it was smug, tiresome bullshit that wasn't nearly as well-thought-out or constructive as I thought it was.

Yeah, I think we all do kind of stupid judgment calls when we're in our teens. This immediately reminded me of when I heard a song by the Cure on the radio and liked it, but "I hear they openly admit to doing drugs!" The horrors! I would never support such people!

...So instead I listened to the Beatles and Pink Floyd. Erm.

I.... never once in my life have thought the chemical part of the name referred to drug use. I straight up pictured either the concept of chemicals in the brain or like a beaker full of green acid with an "x" on the label. Idk why but this is cracking me up. Thanks for sharing :')

Not me thinking MCR meant the chemical changes in your brain when you fall in love with someone and that whole "love isn't real its just a series of chemical reactions" thing! So it was just a drug reference all along. Lol today I learned!

Lol It’s okay, OP. You’re definitely not alone in looking back at your teenage self and cringing. I was one of those “not like other girls” girl and I’m so glad I’m not like that anymore.

I don’t think I ever thought MCR was a drug reference because I was (and still am) super obsessed with them and knew their name came from a book, but I was in my thirties when I learned Green Day was a drug reference and somebody had to spell it out to me.

When I was a teen, I loved 'hidden' or sideways references to drugs, horror, 'crazy' stuff, gore...mostly because it was 'shocking' to others and i liked to like things that got other people upset.

It was good that i actually genuinely liked those things, too, like Alice Cooper and Tanith Lee's weird stuff.

It feels icky to me how the discussion on Chinese censorship is so centered around gay shipping. Like people going "omggg look at them my gay babies but the show won't let them do it 😭😭". I get that this is the internet and people are more focused on the shows they are watching/reading than irl politics but maybe tone it down a bit?

well, my first suggestions would probably be to accept that sometimes you will feel unwelcome feelings and think unwelcome things and that is not indicative of what kind of person you are. the second that admitting that the things we enjoy exploring in fiction rarely translate 1 to 1 into our real world desires will probably lead to you having a more pleasant fandom experience in general.
the third would be to take a look at your friendships because if this kind of thing is not something you can discuss with the people you call friends without them deliberately hurting you over it, that's kind of a bad sign and also, no offense, sounds like even if you're not exactly an anti, you're hanging with antis.

Just to clarify - it's my intention to make all the secrets left in this thread, so even if they're not marked claimed, they will be made.
