Lol It’s okay, OP. You’re definitely not alone in looking back at your teenage self and cringing. I was one of those “not like other girls” girl and I’m so glad I’m not like that anymore.

I don’t think I ever thought MCR was a drug reference because I was (and still am) super obsessed with them and knew their name came from a book, but I was in my thirties when I learned Green Day was a drug reference and somebody had to spell it out to me.

I went through that phase, too. I'm mainly just super thankful that most of the stupid stuff I said during my teen years happened offline, since we didn't have internet in our home until 2000. I shudder to think of what idiocy I could've put out there had social media been a thing back in the day.

Saaaame. I feel kinda sorry for teenagers today because all their stupidity is just out there on Twitter or TikTok or whatever for the world to see.

I remember that girls who were "not like other girls" were people who were puritanical about weed and were weirdly proud of being ignorant.

Like, I was into weed and metal AND SFF fandom in high school? It wasn't that rare. The kids who were ignorant about drugs looked down on us for some weird reason. But I always thought it was good to learn about things you might want to write about.
