I consider myself a Fantasy fan but apart from Lord of the Rings (Which I appreciated but didn't particularly enjoy <- another fail right there) and A Song of Ice And Fire (luckily season 8 of GoT cured me of being interested in further reading there), I haven't read any of the big fantasy series like Wheel of Time, The Sword of Truth, everything after the first Earthsea book etc.

same! although LOTR is my favorite book, we differ there. that said, I won't take "it's just like LOTR" as a rec because...I like LOTR but I don't want to read it again. I want a new and different book.

but likewise, after the first book of Sword of Truth I noped out of the rest, first Earthsea and nothing after, zero Wheel of Time, zero GRRM books, so on and so forth.

Do yourself a favour and don't read The Sword of the Truth series, or just the first book if you really have to. Trust me, I liked the first books alright but they're pretty sexist and lack subtlety when it comes to politics.

Be aware that the author probably wrote some passages with his hand down his pants and likes BDSM.

Is Sword of Truth the one where the protagonist attacks protestors who are "armed only with their hatred for moral clarity" or something to that effect? Because I've never read the series, but every time it's mentioned I think of that and have a good laugh.

The protagonist kicks a literal little child in the face and smugly commits genocide. He's a classical liberal.

Ohhhh. Well I highly recommend OP watches Legend of the Seeker ! It's solid fun and a pretty good show on its own.

Although the whole BDSM thing was a vibe especially with Cora and her whole lady army.
