Buffy's awesome. The rest of his works suck though so I do get you.

I've never understood the hype about Firefly.

Firefly is a combination of factors. Everyone was wanting a space based franchise that wasn't Star Trek, everyone was still hopped up on Whedon's hype that he was a progressive feminist (and not a gaslighting, cut-rate Harvey Weinstein) and SFF auteur (and not a skeevy one trick pony whose best work needed Marti Noxon to save it from him), and everyone was super angry about how quick FOX was to axe shows that underperformed. So when FOX dropped the axe on the Confederate Apologists show In SPACE(!) from Whedon after a couple of episodes, well, the nerdrage about it being a lost masterpiece began. And that is the story of Firefly's reputation.
