Re: What ship's canon stuff disappointed you when you started a media?

Speak for yourself. I just ignore Endgame's ending, which struck me as very tacked on and OOC for Steve given how he had been presented in all of the previous movies. To paraphrase Nick Fury, it may be canon, but it's shitty-ass canon and therefore I have elect3ed to ignore it.

You've got to ignore all of the canon past about midway through the first CA movie for Stucky to work as anything other than a series of tragic missed opportunities and one-sided obsession. It's fine if you want to ignore canon to make your ship work though. We all do it.

No? Not if you headcanon them as only getting together much later on, like after Civil War, or maybe even after Endgame. In that case all you have to do is ignore the ending of Endgame.

You can also headcanon that they had sex one time, before the beginning of TFA, but they just didn't talk about it afterwards and assumed the other considered it a mistake. Or you can even headcanon that they had sex periodically for years, but always pretended that it was just Steve helping Bucky through dry patches, and Bucky helping Steve through, well, through the dry patch that was his whole life. A very 'love that dared not speak its name' scenario.

They could've been deeply and abidingly in love with each other for years, and still lived with the unquestioned belief that it could never be anything; that a heteronormative future was inevitable and even right.

None of that actually conflicts with canon in any major ways, IMO.

I say this as someone who only ships Stucky in a casual sort of way, and has never even read any Stucky fanfic.

No? In addition to what the person above said, AUs are also a thing, including canon divergent AUs. The imagination is limitless. And it's all fiction anyway. Canon isn't sacred, as much as certain parts of fandom like to pretend that it is, at least until it does something that they don't like (which it inevitably does). It's all fiction. Besides, I've been a comics fan since I was tiny, and am adept at ignoring things I don't like in the source material that is constantly rebooting and contradicting itself. MCU is getting to the same point of contradicting and rebooting itself, so I'm treating it the way I treat comics. Canon is what is entertaining me now.

What? Half of Stucky stuff assumes they don't have a relationship till after they're in present-day anyway.
