Honestly I just didn't like the relationship dynamic and kind of disengaged from the story around the middle.

I haven't read the actual Iliad so coming into the story with the bare bones of what should be happening, I just wasn't into the whole "this other person is my whole reason of being" thing. I get why some people are into the whole romantic notion of it but it just didn't work for me.

It's funny because I've read fanfics of Patroclus and Achilles that imo had better dynamics and stronger sense of character than The Song of Achilles but eh. It just feels like an overlyplotty mediocre fic.

I do agree that it would have been better if they went and did something novel with the other side characters but I guess it wouldn't have been as accessible to the general public since it would need more background knowledge of the Iliad.
