Yes, that would still be dumb. Because it doesn’t change anything no matter who’s saying it, it’s still nonsense.

“Because there are a lot of people, a growing number, of those who would very much like black Americans to stop appropriating African-ness when they have no connection to the continent too.”

So a growing number of people don’t know that ancestry is a direct connection to where the ancestors are from? African-Americans have a connection to Africa by ancestry, and you can’t take that away or erase it. And “appropriating African-ness” by being proud of their heritage? That’s not how most people would define appropriation, since their connection to the culture of their ancestors exists regardless of how much you think it doesn’t matter.

“Americans, nobody else in the world cares about what you think your heritage is or whether it counts. It counts for nothing, and it devalues the people who still live in those original countries.”

Considering the concept of heritage predates America itself, it’s not American’s fault that you don’t understand it. It wasn’t created by Americans to ruin your day like you seem to think. It’s a very simple and objective concept of heritage lying in where your descendants are from. Do some Americans become obnoxious and make that heritage their entire identity? Yes. Does that mean the meaning of heritage is suddenly wrong just because you find Americans caring about it annoying and offensive? No.

And someone simply having a connection to your country through heritage devalues nothing about the country or it’s people. You’re devaluing human beings because you hate the country they were born in.
