I don't know what fandom this is about so I don't have much to say about the actual secret, and no matter what fandom I suppose my thoughts would pretty much be "meh, this is fandom, ship and let ship", but...

...that image. DYING. :D

It'd be fine if this wasn't a fandom with infamous ship wars :)

Yeah, that's what I mean. It doesn't seem from the secret like you object to the ship so much as their insistence that their ship can only be validated by yours being invalidated. Ship wars are just... dumb.

"Vice Magazine wrote that the tinfoil hat in popular culture "can be traced back in a very weird and prescient short story written in 1927 by Julian Huxley"[3] titled The Tissue-Culture King, wherein the main character uses a metal hat to prevent being mind controlled by the villain scientist.[4][5] Over time the term "tin foil hat" has become associated with paranoia and conspiracy theories.[6]"

I had no idea that tin foil hatting was that old.

I still don't get why seeing your ship in canon is so important to people. I mean, I like to see more queer ships but it doesn't really matter to me which particular main characters it is.

For m/m and f/f, it's validating to your identity. And nine times out of ten, the canon ship is het.

^^ This.

That image is amazing.

I completely get where you’re coming from! I wish people like this could just ship their ships without acting like they always need to be canon sometimes. It almost feels like these people don’t feel like shipping is worthwhile unless it leads to canonization. But it’s probably more entitlement than anything.

And as an aside, I’m not sure if you want to have your fandom explode into a bigger fandom after new content. But if you do, I hope you’re right. I just wouldn’t get my hopes up, personally. I’ve had too many fandoms where I thought “surely the new content with bring new people into the fandom/revive it!”, but it didn’t really end up happening.

No, no OP. The new fandom vogue is to aggressively support a ship that won't become canon, and isn't promised to be by anyone, and then harass the writers on social media when it doesn't happen because you were lied to.
