I understand your anxiety, especially with what happened with Tamsyn Muir. But you should remember that wanky terminally online people are a vocal minority. Authors like Naomi Novik, N.K. Jemisin, Arkady Martine and Ursula Vernon (who have written fic or are still writing fic) are successful and seem to be doing all right.

Some pearl-clutching scold on book twitter led a "callout" mob because she wrote Homestuck fic with underage and non-con years ago.

It really messed her up, she was near suicidal. She talks about it in a lot of depth here.

(It probably did increase her book sales though. I was on the fence about buying Gideon the Ninth, but I like to support authors who are being victimized by that sort of shit, so I did. Very glad I did. It's now a Fandom of My Heart and I've bought the books that are out on both Kindle and paperback, will do the same for the others. I also evangelize about them to my friends!)
