I read it SOLELY for the butt-sex. ;D WHAT IS WRONG WITH PORN FOR THE SAKE OF PORN? Does everything have to be an epic fucking Jane Austin novel for you?

Harrr. Yay PORN!

Re: 105.

(Anonymous) 2009-03-07 10:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Because it is deceptive porn! It has this big elaborate backdrop that hints at some sort of plot and then it just pulls it out from under you and goes "LOL! There's not plot here stupid! Just buttsex!"

If it was just buttsex for buttsex's sake, that'd be fine. But it's parading around as something else and then getting butthurt when it's called on the fact that it's just buttsex.

Re: 105.

[identity profile] bombaygin.livejournal.com 2009-03-07 10:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Sounds like someone else is butthurt. ;D

Re: 105.

(Anonymous) 2009-03-07 10:37 pm (UTC)(link)
I think someone needs to clearly define butthurt once and for all. Lately it's just one of those buzzwords that people pull out of a hat for the answer to everything.

I never realized it was such a crime to have a few expectations and be disappointed when let down. I don't think that's dramariffic enough to count as butthurt.

Re: 105.

[identity profile] powercorrupts.livejournal.com 2009-03-07 10:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Someone has created a webcomic with their own time and put it online and all you can bitch about is that it's not the comic you wanted them to make. You're disappointed that someone online isn't spending their time telling the story you wanted to read.

That's pretty much what I'd call butthurt right there.

Re: 105.

(Anonymous) 2009-03-07 11:08 pm (UTC)(link)
If they post it online for an audience, the audience has every right to throw tomatoes at a crappy offering.

Pity no one cares what you think.

Re: 105.

(Anonymous) 2009-03-07 10:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Does it even pretend to be anything but a yaoi doujin filled with buttsex? Seriously, that observation isn't worth a shit, because the dumbest kid on 4chan can take one look at it and come up with the same conclusion. Get over yourself and GTFO.

Re: 105.

(Anonymous) 2009-03-07 11:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh comic author that parades anon. You think you're fooling people but obviously you are the butthurtest of them all.

Re: 105.

(Anonymous) 2009-03-08 01:32 am (UTC)(link)
Pshaw! You have the wrong woman here! Your dectective skills are sorely lacking.

SORELY LIKE YOUR BUTT.

Re: 105.

(Anonymous) 2009-03-07 11:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Um. So you don't like that it had some space fights (where the guy jacked off) before the porn?

I think your standards are weird. Sorry.

Re: 105.

[identity profile] notforked.livejournal.com 2009-03-08 04:00 am (UTC)(link)
Well, did they ever say they were going to stop making the comic after the buttsex happened? Maybe some webcomics, you know, keep going.

Re: 105.

[identity profile] davaidavaidavai.livejournal.com 2009-03-07 11:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Nothing's wrong with porn for the sake of porn! But it's up online and that means we get to bitch about "ARHGHHHH I LIKE THE STYLE I LIKE THE SETTING JGDOADSGAS WHY DO I HAVE TO HATE THE CHARACTERS AND PLOT THIS IS ALMOST ENJOYABLE".

and the porn is so cliché, too :C

Re: 105.

[identity profile] bombaygin.livejournal.com 2009-03-07 11:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Uh. So are you just bitching to bitch? You like the style, you like the setting, but you have a problem with one of the guys desperately wanting to be fucked in the ass?

So if Neil Gaiman wrote the same exact comic, would you hate it just as much? Or would you fucking come all over it just because it was Neil Gaiman?

Re: 105.

[identity profile] davaidavaidavai.livejournal.com 2009-03-07 11:33 pm (UTC)(link)
If Neil Gaiman wrote the exact same comic, I would be all "Neil, what happened :C". I can admit that I don't like something by an artist/author that I adore. I like HM's art style. I think the idea of tagteaming battles in future space is cool.

I have a problem with what she did with it. It could have had more development, and thus would have been a lot more enjoyable, especially when it got to the buttsecks part. Alas, it seems like everything got thrown out the window for PWP YAOI SHENANIGANS. And hey, that's what she wanted to do! Fine! I'm just dissappointed.

And I never thought I was bitching. Stating my opinion, yes, because that's what people do on the internet. Maybe stating it exhuberantly, yes. But I'm not about to start an internet wide movement about ARHGGH STARFIGHTER IS AN OFFENSE TO HUMANITY AUGHRHGH.

Re: 105.

(Anonymous) 2009-03-07 11:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Being as it's the internet there's always some hyped up idiot ready to make a mountain out of a mole hill because they're itching for a fight.

Re: 105.

[identity profile] davaidavaidavai.livejournal.com 2009-03-07 11:59 pm (UTC)(link)
The secret is to strive not to be that idiot, right, Anon? That's how I see it, at least.

Re: 105.

[identity profile] bombaygin.livejournal.com 2009-03-07 11:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay, I like and commend you. :3 Thank you for stating your opinion clearly and not being all "OMG I'M COOL BECAUSE I CAN ACT PRETENTIOUS," like these anonytwats are doing. Don't they realize that pretentiousness died with the Harry Potter fandom? Intellislashers no longer exist! That boat has long-since sailed, friends!

But I can totally get your disappointment. I'm disappointed there isn't more of a storyline either. But I certainly will keep looking at the pretty penises and wish I could draw something just as delicious. I mean shit... her sense of light and shadows is fantastic!

Also, the >GRAB< and >LICK< effects are hilarious. ;D

ARHGGH STARFIGHTER IS AN OFFENSE TO HUMANITY AUGHRHGH

Judging from a lot of the detractors of the comic, that's exactly what they think; that their expectations weren't met therefore the author is deliberately trying to offend them. deliberately and personally offend THEM.

Re: 105.

[identity profile] ex-hayato987.livejournal.com 2009-03-08 12:21 am (UTC)(link)
I think the reason a lot of people are irritated is just because it's so popular, and that just builds expectations. I mean, imagine all your friends coming from the movies raving about it, then you go see it and it's 2 hours of bouncing cocks. General reaction is lulz, but hey!
I feel all grrr towards it myself because there's millions of far better comics out there that no one will have the patience to read, and yet flock to the gay, reading it like hungry little animals. It's a little disappointing, is all! I mean, in humanity.

Re: 105.

[identity profile] bombaygin.livejournal.com 2009-03-08 12:27 am (UTC)(link)
I do agree with this. However, if you know of some better comics, you shouldn't hide them all to yourself! Share the wealth! ;D

And sadly, because our culture still deems homosexuality as a taboo force, something like this comic will always get strong reactions like the ones "Starfighter" has received. People will flock to things they feel are popularly taboo.

I wish I could point out great graphic novels such as Transmetropolitan, MAUS, and even the Sandman series... but most times, people just don't want to think that hard. And good old fashioned sex just wins out because it's raw and doesn't require a lick of thought. ;D

Re: 105.

[identity profile] ex-hayato987.livejournal.com 2009-03-08 12:37 am (UTC)(link)
Certainly! I'll rec some to you. The trouble is, I'm a tiny fly on the butt of the internet, not a BNF at all-- and while I rec things to friends, they never really read 'em. However they all read Starfighter as soon as I mention it! I mean, yeah, it's a lot shorter but it makes me sad nonetheless~ Personally I prefer reading a good story over porn, would rather waste my time on that.
http://www.nofna.com/ has 10%+ and Secretary, which are gorgeous and undeniably creative. However, they star animals. Haha no one'll read it with me ): 'its just not interesting to me', I hear from most. Which I can respect... just mope about.
http://www.gunnerkrigg.com/index2.php Gunnerkrigg Court ~the art wasn't always the best, but it's still good, with a creative plot.
http://www.lackadaisycats.com/ 1920-30's comic about Lackadaisy, a bootlegging joint in prohibition-era America.

I'm only butthurt about Starfighter because eeeveryone on the flist/lj has thumbed through that, and not a one totes around icons or rec's to ^^^^ comics!

/pops out of nowhere
Gunnerkrigg Court! Great suggestion, I love that webcomic. The art got definitely better with time, looking back at the first pages now is kind of "awww" inducing because you can clearly see the author's style improved.
Lackadaisy looks nice, might read it.

Re: 105.

Well, idk, I think the popularity of Starfighter depends on where you're looking? Some yaoi-loving crowds on LJ are into it, sure, but the wider internet seems a little clueless. I do frequent some art forums, some of which have comic sections, and um, honestly, only one has mentioned it and it was responded with a lot of "what the hell's that?" On the list of popular webcomics online, I'd put Starfighter well below the top 50? Honestly? Considering the scope of the professional, actually published ones. Outside of LJ, I've only seen it even mentioned even the once, and that was on that forum where no one but me and one other poster even knew of it.

As far as better comics, what I'm currently reading are Lackadaisy (already recc'd) and a whole lot of minor serious comics. I'm not really into funny ones much, and I'm a shallow whore when it comes to art. If the art isn't pretty, I don't even bother usually.

I'll bookmark all of those, and get to 'em when I've the time for sure. Thank you for sure! Fungus Grotto, Red Moon Rising, Ghosts and World Break most definitely. I hope they're half as interesting as they are pretty, haha.

Well, that's precisely what I mean by popular- on LJ. It's true that it's pretty unknown the most of the internet, you'd be right there, but I'm only a little butthurt that an entire flock of people seem so wholly focused on porn instead of a thumpin' good read. It takes all kinds, don't it? And reccing good work is throwing pearls before swine, just about literally. And it makes me frown.

sort of like PWP fanfic.
