If I walked to the store and caught some street harassments I'd be shocked because that hasn't happened since I was 20. But in all seriousness ->

When period characters behave this way it's because the creators aren't thinking of a character living in her world, they're imagining a character living in a world that is foreign to them. It's never a good sign. I mean I guess the characters could be really naïve or sheltered or self absorbed or coddled or whatever else so they've never experienced the world and thought about their path through it but that's only interesting if it's done on purpose.
