It was sporking shipping of all kind, considering the majority of fandom just wants to see their characters make out. XD

O RLY? Then why was the main focus on Zutara? Why not focus on a crackship like Sokkla or Ty Laru or Hakursa, or something else? That joke short added with the jab at Zutarians on the finale commentary was not appropriate. You do not treat your fans like that. Instead of being intelligent men and showing the shipping neutral reunion of Zuko and Ursa which was cut, they instead poke fun at the largest portion of the fan base. Not smart and extremely rude.

The Zuko and Ursa reunion that was cut from where?

From the finale. I believe it was Mike who said to cut it, iirc.

But since in an animated show I think that meant it was cut long before there was any actual animated scenes to cut. So I don't think there would have been anything to actually show.

Actually, they cut the scene out after it was storyboarded, so there was something to show the audience. And from what I know, it wasn't even added as an extra on the DVDs. >< That's something that crossed shipping lines, I know.

You are taking this WAY too seriously. The comment obviously wasn't intended to horrifically offend anyone. Also, Zutara IS non-canon, so Zutara fans are going to have to deal with a little adversity, ESPECIALLY among show creators, I would think. If you're not willing to put up with that...then don't watch the show.

P.S. You said yourself that Zutara is "the largest portion of the fan base" so that's why the focus was there. Relax and enjoy the show.

We do deal with it. You think I can't? The majority of my ships in EVERY fandom I'm in are non canon. But that's no excuse for anyone to make fun of a ship because of that, no matter if it's the fans or the creators. A canon ship is no better than a fanon one and vice versa.

And so what if I'm taking it seriously? That comment was WAY below the belt and inappropriate. I can take a few jabs, read: the rest of the short. Had it not been for that line, I'd be laughing with everyone else. But no, they had to be asshats. So yes, I am going to be pissed.

On the contrary, I think it's important to make fun of every ship, just to remember yourself that you're watching a fictional show that was spawned out of some nerd's brain and you shouldn't cry yourself to sleep at night because you think the villain/anti-hero and heroine would look cute together and the creators didn't intend it that way. So in that sense, canon does take priority only because if everyone were truly in character, as the creators wrote them, that's how it would go down, that's how it did go down.

I just rewatched the video and I don't think it was inappropriate. And I'm not a KATAANG 4EVERLIEKWHOA fan. I just think that if you are offended because the creators made fun of some of the crazier fans of one of their works, you need to go do some meditation or something.

Oh, I just wanted to specify that by "crazier fans" I mean the crazy rip-Kataang-fans-a-new-one Zutara fans. Not all Zutara fans are mentally deranged, in fact I interact with some on a daily basis and they are very social, cordial people.

I think it's important to make fun of every ship myself. I'm just sick of the degrading comments that Zutarians get. Yes, ZUTARIANS. I couldn't care less if someone is making fun of my ship as long as it doesn't get personal. That "Zutarians will never have healthy relationships" comment was getting personal. The rest of the joke short was making fun of the ship and the crazy shippers, but that line ruined the entire joke and made it unfunny.

And even creators can make characters go OOC. I still maintain that in TSR, Zuko was OOC. Just a few episodes, he's all working for his own forgiveness, yet encourages Katara to go on a revenge mission. Uhm, does not compute. Oh well, what's done is done and fans work with it.

Though frankly, if they wanted to go down the crazy shipper route, they should have a harem anime parody of some kind considering how badly a lot of people that I've met multiship (including myself). *giggles insanely at the idea*

...Dammit, now I'm tempted to write it. Frickin' plot bunnies. XD

To be honest....I doubt they're AWARE of "crackships" except the ones that come up on whatever vanity googling they're doing. As I said in my comment below, I don't think they have as sophisticated an understanding of fandom as folks give them credit for. I know they keep a vague eye on ASN and the big, general coms, but they probably don't even know what "Sokkla" is.

Again, seriously not trying to cause trouble! I just feel badly that this has upset so many people, when I think it's mostly just that the staff don't know a lot about fandom and how it works. Which isn't great, but also isn't deliberately mean. <:)

Right, I understand and see where you're coming from. It's just... I wish that people involved in the industry would learn about fandom and get to understand it and its workings better. Then we wouldn't have crap like this much less be having this conversation. Probably why secrets on here about how if the various Anons become writers, they also intend on participating in their fandom make me feel all nice and fuzzy inside. X3

And I think we kind of got that they do at least do some kind of overview on general comms due to a lot of the fandom-related jokes in EIP. XD I giggled like crazy at the Great Divide and Jet's death parts. I also get how they likely wouldn't know about crackships. After all, some of my favorite crackships I didn't even know existed until I saw them brought up in the ASN shipping thread. Jet/Mai comes to mind first on that one. XD

They had Tokka. They had Azulaang. You don't see fans of those pairings getting all butthurt and saying "OMGZZ THEY MADE FUN OF MY SHIP, THEREFORE THEY MADE FUN OF ME!!!1"

Fucking get a grip.

They had Tokka and Azulaang for a few seconds. They had Zutara flaming for the rest of the video. It's called focus and the main focus was Zutara. Screw you.
