This is exactly why I try to get my hands on as many versions of a canon as possible, especially before writing fic. Because if it's a screen adaptation of a comic or book, there's going to be details that they had to cut or add, and if I know all of those, I can pick and choose what I think works best.

But I'm not really sure if I'd call that a crossover, particularly... If something has multiple versions and I'm drawing from all of them, I use all of those fandom tags, but not the crossover one... Hope I haven't been doing it wrong!
