Re: What is your dysfunction?

I'm not OP, but I too have DSPD. I wish I'd known DSPD was a thing when I was younger, so that I could've made the educated decision to structure my work around it. Instead I just assumed I was weak, lazy, and undisciplined, and that I had to try harder. Which led to me fighting it fruitlessly and struggling to hold down menial jobs for my entire adult life.

DSPD, in and of itself, doesn't have to be disabling (and very often isn't), but it was at least somewhat disabling for me because I fought it tooth and nail rather than learning to work with it. I just didn't know any better.

And now I'm mid-thirties with zero qualifications. I spent seven years getting into the union in my job so that I could make a decent wage, but my job involves deeply unpredictable hours with lots of VERY early morning and long days. *facepalm*

I’ve never heard of dspd so I went to look it up and holy shitballs batman I can go to bed at a decent time but I never get any sleep until two hoursish later and suffer sleepless nights sometimes or wake up early and can’t go back to sleep. I didn’t realise there was a term or disorder for that.
