There are so many stupid people on the family sub I'm on. Seriously, any and all behaviour is excused by this idea that anything done to make kids happy is excusable and should be free from scrutiny. And it's not like people are writing essays against them, just so much as to raise your head above the parapet gets you dogpiled by people calling you Karen and hisses of 'be kind' and 'if you can't say anything nice don't say anything at all'.

SA For context, I'm right now watching a dogpile go down. Somebody made the mistake of politely suggesting that filling a room full of balloons for a kids birthday is not necessarily great for the environment. Currently 38 replies from a tame 'be kind' to some really nasty mocking.

I despair.

And you came to FS to get away from dogpiles? Because I count three just in today's post alone.

Let me guess, number four starts in replies?

Genuine question: can you tell me which comments you think are dogpiling? I sometimes see people talk about it, but have a hard time pinning down exactly what they're talking about.

Sorry, but no. I'd rather not get sucked down that rabbit hole.

Read: you're full of shit.

da

ayrt's definition of dogpiling is pretty transparently "anyone disagreeing with me on any topic".

"Friendly reminder that balloons are bad for the environment" is an extremely douchey thing to say about a kids party though. Or any party really. Everyone knows balloons aren't great for the environment, and everyone also knows they're a party staple. Nobody needs a condescending reminder that they're making a teeny drop in the ocean of environmental problems when they blow up a balloon. I'd tell that person to fuck off too.

If someone knows that and does it anyway, they deserve shitty comments. Unbelievably selfish.

Calm down.

I agree with parts of this. Especially that the comment is framed in a douchey way. Seriously, I thought we all left condescending comments starting in “Friendly reminder” back in Tumblr.

I wouldn't tell them to fuck off, but I'd probably respond with something like, "Nobody is 100% environmentally responsible all the time. We all pick our battles and our indulgences. My kid's birthday party is always going to be in the latter category." If they came back with anything remotely critical, then I'd tell them to fuck off.

I would definitely be thinking "Oh fuck off," right from the start, though.
