Complain about minor things here

Brought to you by the fact that I’ve just been sick and I probably should eat something but I don’t have anything plain enough and I really don’t want to go out in this weather. :/

There are so many stupid people on the family sub I'm on. Seriously, any and all behaviour is excused by this idea that anything done to make kids happy is excusable and should be free from scrutiny. And it's not like people are writing essays against them, just so much as to raise your head above the parapet gets you dogpiled by people calling you Karen and hisses of 'be kind' and 'if you can't say anything nice don't say anything at all'.

Re: Complain about minor things here

(Anonymous) 2021-11-29 11:27 pm (UTC)(link)
SA For context, I'm right now watching a dogpile go down. Somebody made the mistake of politely suggesting that filling a room full of balloons for a kids birthday is not necessarily great for the environment. Currently 38 replies from a tame 'be kind' to some really nasty mocking.

I despair.

I am working on my quest to find a tea I like so that I can have something hot to drink at work (since I don't drink coffee). So, I bought 24 random teas (one bag of each flavor) off of Republic of Tea. So far, none have gotten above a C. C is "finish the drink" so not really swinging for the fences with it. Below are the rankings.

Pumpkin Spice - F
Peppermint chocolate (w sugar and milk) - F
Caramel Vanilla (w sugar and milk) - D
Good Hope Vanilla (w honey) - F
Cinnamon Vanilla - F
Republic Chai (w sugar and milk) - C

Are you new to tea? Personally, I find the artificially flavored teas are generally pretty vile. I advise you to start with tasting just plain black, green, and white tea or the popular herbal teas (if you don't care about caffeine) like rooibos and chamomile. Then branch out within that family for tea base you like.

If you're not finding a blend you like from grocery stores or big box websites, Adagio.com has loads of high quality teas to choose from. They also have a gazillion custom fandom blends, which are very fun. Really just anything you could think of so you can try something based on the flavors you like. It's loose leaf but little tea strainers are really easy and cheap to find. It's on the more expensive end but not more expensive than higher end grocery teas.

Hot tip: Make sure you're not burning the tea leaves when you make tea. Using straight boiling water will turn some teas very bitter.

Maybe try hot chocolate? If you like hot chocolate. There are also all kinds of varieties out there.

I like tea, but all the ones you've listed except maybe the Chai made me wince. Personally I feel like the basics are pretty much tea at its best.

I had to skim through a bunch of legal documents for a mandatory thing at work. Not one of them used the fucking Oxford comma. It made me angrier than I would have expected.

I blame Scalia for legal playing games with commas.

I've now had three appointments for a root canal. The dentist says there is some issue, I didn't really understand what, but now she says I need to see an endodontist. I'm getting a second opinion on Wednesday. I have no idea what is going on, but I'm really frustrated.

Have they asked that your family doctor do blood tests for them? Because if they haven't then it is probably just an infection causing and impinging on a cranial nerve and they are tying to work out the best way to excise it. Which sounds bad, but if they are asking your doctor to draw bloods for them then explanations start getting a very cancery very quickly.

Pissing me off for months now has been that this one rabbit FB group I'm in is generally smart and fun and doesn't take things too seriously, but now it's become a cult of personalities. Often cuter personalities, granted, but we're talking the "BNF needs a new computer let's buy it for them even though they're better off than most of us!" stage.

Making matters more annoying, one of the "BNB"s (Big Name Bunnies) started making "his own posts" and had a kind of amusing dialect. (His owner is multilingual and really had the voice down well, it didn't come off as just baby talk or lolcat though it was meant to be childish.) And then a ton of other people started doing the same thing, but trying to copy that "bunspeak" except they're not good at it at all and it's just horribly painful to read.

So I hardly ever read the text of the posts anymore because they're so obnoxious, unless it's clear from the first sentence that it's not a human talking like a particularly stupid toddler. (Rabbits are clever little brats, which makes it even more annoying to me.) At least the pictures are still cute, and there are enough people who make genuinely funny posts ABOUT their rabbits. But uggghhhh. Stop starting your posts with "Henlo frens. It me. It [name]."

I get amazon packages delivered to my work because since covid they've started being stolen off my porch. I have the hours listed so they'll only deliver when we're open, but a bunch of stuff was dumped over the back fence into a public area while we were closed yesterday, and while nothing was missing when we got in this morning, some of the boxes had been opened. I'm assuming whoever it was gave up after wtfing at the 10 lb box of dried mealworms.

I recently filled out a questionnaire about ways to improve an event I helped with a bit ago for next time. The person who sent it out is new both to our organization and the event, which was scaled down this time due to covid.

Their ideas are all on the survey as "pick which ones we should do," and even though I've been helping with this since the first time our organization got involved, years ago, I think my multiple choice answers and "anything to add" fill in just killed my chances of ever doing this again, even though I love doing it.

I tried to be diplomatic in saying "the event organizers already do this, we can offer to help but shouldn't duplicate their efforts," "we tried this a few years running a couple different ways and it always failed," "have you asked the people who would have to do the bulk of this work if this is feasible and if they want to do it," "this was a much smaller event than usual and this idea would be great for a similarly sized event and implode spectacularly at the usual scale," and "it's great that you want to include new people to give them some experience, but suggesting they should get first dibs on assignments because the job is fun and it's not fair that some of the same people do it every year guarantees half the applicants are there to have fun and not work and 95% don't know wtf they're doing."

The first couple of years we were involved, I worked multiple people's shifts who bailed to go have fun at the event.

People put in to work a shift at this event so they can go to the event the rest of the time, when there are ways for them to go without volunteering their time at all, because of the work we do and that our organization does with the event organizers.

The people who put in to volunteer just because they want to go to the event, and not because they enjoy working at the event, aren't always much good at the work. I left this out and just said I always enjoy working at the event.

Up until I filled out the questionnaire, I assumed I had about a 60% chance of working the next one. Even though our answers were anonymous, mine probably weren't anonymous enough and I suspect I now have maybe a 5% chance of ever doing it again. It's tons of work but also lots of fun, and I'll miss it and be bitter if I only go on my own and not for work.

I realize that sounds dumb, and also bitchy, but idk, I didn't feel like lying and making the job harder for whoever does volunteer next time.

So we finally got the squatters out of the block without having to imitate them and use arson yay that's a major step, but there are still 15 cubic meters of trash at the end of our yard and godsknowhow many more inside the last vandalized house and we still can get rid of the rats because of that?
