I mean, it's totally about b, but I'm not really seeing where you get a. I'm not even sure that a was a thing...what nerd stuff was avoided by big name stars because it was nerd stuff and not for other reasons?

it was definitely a thing that leading certain types of films, including sci-fi or fantasy genre films meant you weren't oscar-worthy serious as an actor.
