I'm worse than a Karen. I don't demand to see the manager, I cry in the store in front of another customer who asks me what's wrong and then asks an employee to get the manager on my behalf. I never planned to do it, but as soon as I realized it worked, I've chosen not to hold back my tears when I could have held them if I tried a little harder.

When I worked retail I loved it when customers demanded to speak to the manager. It meant my part in dealing with their dipshittery was over and they were about to be someone else's problem. Managers hated it when customers demanded to speak with them, but us floor staff loved it. We even developed our system for guiding customers into demanding it without actually saying they needed to speak to one.

I've been both a floor staff person and a manager, and I can affirm that managers hate Karens just as much, if not more. When they yell, "I'm never coming here again!" I'm like, awesome. Thank you. Don't.

What happens to you in stores that makes you cry so often? I can't remember the last time a shopping experience made me even close to that. Maybe a time I didn't have enough money for something I really wanted badly but that's all I can think of.

See, if I see someone crying in public to the point where I, a stranger, feel a need to comfort them, I'm going to assume they're having a bad breakup or a death in the family or something.

If it turns out that it's over something like not accepting a return or not having something in your size, that would hit my instant-contempt button really hard and fast.
