Or you know, you could write your own fics or just not read fics by authors you think 'get it wrong'. Just suggestions.
If two hate memes didn't kill us, I doubt one or two people writing badfic will.

(Anonymous) 2009-03-11 10:14 pm (UTC)(link)Also I think you choke the creativity out of writers and different ideas out of the fandom by being judgemental of their particular take on something, because it doesn't mesh with yours.
Re: #134
Me personally or fandom in general? It's hard to tell from your tone.
If it's me personally you are more than welcome to actually leave concrit to my fics, as in pointing out where I'm going OOC. Just saying your characterization is poor when you aren't pointing out examples.
Yes, sometimes I personally do tend to write Tony with a strong thread of self-loathing since I set things generally right after Civil War. Do we as a fandom go over board on this sometimes? Possibly.
Also I think you choke the creativity out of writers and different ideas out of the fandom by being judgemental of their particular take on something, because it doesn't mesh with yours.
Would you care to give me any examples of this?
Re: #134
(Anonymous) 2009-03-11 10:33 pm (UTC)(link)You have posted comments to writers pointing out that they have done wrong because it doesn't seem to mesh with your ideas. To be fair, I've never commented because I'm afraid of your attacks and getting blocked out fandom or getting black listed because you decided you don't like me.
I'm posting anonymously because I like submitting the things I do, but lately I've stepped away from Steve and Tony because I don't want to push any buttons or end up on Kijikun's most wanted list. I think that you think you own the fandom and if people disagree with you, then they're wrong and they don't know what they're talking about. That's the impression I have gotten, but will fully admit if I have been wrong in any way.
But you wanted Examples, concrete ones. Of course, I'll provide.
A writer wrote a wonderful movie verse Steve and Tony gen fic and you told him that it had to be slash to post. Last time I checked, the rules never said it had to be slash and you're not a mod of the community.
Also, characterization. Go back and reread Ultimates and tell me if that kid you gave Tony 616 would actually fit well into the life of 1610 Stark, or if he'd actually even consider adopting a kid. Did you forget the part where he's dying... that's just a small note.
Re: #134
I'm flattered you think I have so much power in fandom and that I have a wanted list. Honestly there are very few people in the fandoms whose fics I don't like, and those whose characterization I disagree with? I don't read.
Seriousfic freely admitted to only posting it in the community for more reader. I liked the fic, it was a lot of fun, but I wasn't sure it belonged in the community. I was wrong, and yep my bad.
And on the ultimates fic, either I'll make it work and believable or I won't. Such is the danger of writing things like that or kidfic in general.
I really do want to know who you are. I feel this conversation would be more productive that way.
Re: #134
(Anonymous) 2009-03-11 10:57 pm (UTC)(link)The time I've been in the livejournal part of the fandom hasn't been all that long but I've been taught to tread lightly around you. Not because I think you have power, but because you think that you do. If I didn't care more about my writing than I do about having this conversation with you, I'd gladly come forward.
So far people have liked what I put out in the general fandom of IM and Cap_Ironman... I'm not going to change that.
I still think that that kind of behavior is out of place. Same reason I haven't ripped your stuff apart in comments at the community.
Re: #134
(Anonymous) 2009-03-11 10:34 pm (UTC)(link)About the stranglehold: I know of at least one person you've scared away from the fandom because you did not agree with her characterization in a crack fic. It's a crack fic for crying out loud, give it a rest. And if you don't like it, don't read it.
She was brand new to the fandom and her first impression was you yelling down her throat. She hasn't been back since which is a shame because the fandom is usually so great and loving.

(Anonymous) 2009-03-12 12:42 am (UTC)(link)Is that one you mean? Because if so, I don't blame her for throat-jumping. I found it triggery and way the hell full of squick factor.
Re: #134
(Anonymous) 2009-03-12 01:11 am (UTC)(link)I also thought it might also refer to that thing that went up about three weeks ago, where Tony was drinking gallons of cum and it was referred to as "nursing" and Steve had ribbons wrapped around his balls and they were described as moving with the momentum of swinging bowling balls. Because I had that bookmarked as a fell weapon to be unleashed upon my enemies in my darkest hour, but it's not there anymore. If we drove that girl out of fandom, I'm sorry, but I'm not sorry.
PS If I read one more god damned kidfic, "Tony's really Toni!" or mpreg on cap_ironman, I will set all of LJ on fire.
Re: #134
(Anonymous) 2009-03-12 01:21 am (UTC)(link)Re: #134
I see this thrown around a lot and it's getting old.
For the most part I've found most people in this fandom DO read canon. Maybe it's not current, canon, but guess what? 90's Tony, IS CANON. I can write Steve circa Jack Kirby's run and have him be a total mental case around Rick Jones, and guess what CANON! Brubaker's (sp) and Fraction's current takes on the characters are (thank god) not the be all end all of a canon that spreads decades.
With characters with so much history, there are mutliple takes on their personalities in canon, so why not in fanon?
IMHO, Kiji writes a fine version of Tony, that yes maybe more influenced by older canon than newer canon, but it's still a canon take on a character that has repeatedly tried to kill himself AND gets along very well with kids (read Clarmont's annual). You don't like it, don't read it.
If you think she's too judgemental, that's a personal issue, but at least she's not afraid to put her own name with her own opinions -_-
Meh, the funny thing is I won't write in the HP fandom because I do feel its too judgemental of different characterizations. The whole reason I write for Ca_ironaman, (and TOS BSG slash fandom) is because I've always found them open to characterization, even if it's unpopular, like Ultimates.
*shrugs*
Anyway, back to wedding stuffs for the day -_-

(Anonymous) 2009-03-12 01:01 am (UTC)(link)Yes, I do, whenever I feel the writer is actually take it in the spirit in which it is offered and either a) take the advice or b) decline to take the advice, but do so gracefully and politely. (Sometimes "politely" means just saying "Thanks for the comment. I'll think on it.")
You, however, have a tendency for butthurtedness and seem to be always eager to go into combat with your commenters. There's a difference between disagreeing and then going on to discuss your differing views (some of my favorite character discussions have been "arguments" like this), and disagreeing and then defending your position to the death. Some of it's just tone -- "maybe" "I think" "I see what you mean, but" and other weasel words go a long way toward making you sound like less of a brittle, shrill harpy, by the way.
I do write, I do beta, and I do concrit. And while I find your work pleasing in a lot of ways, I don't even bother to approach you when I think you've gone ooc or otherwise out of bounds.
Re: #134
And yes I am being butthurt. My original comment was about fandom and trying make someone feel like they could do something if they were having problems with fandom. I did not expect to have it be about me. I am not important in fandom. I don't have power.
Re: #134
(Anonymous) 2009-03-12 01:48 am (UTC)(link)Presented in a snippy, holier-than-thou tone. It doesn't matter if you didn't mean it to sound that way; it came out that way. A lot of things seem to come out that way for you, and that's why people are having such negative reactions.
Not-bitchy way to phrase your OC:
"There wouldn't be secrets like this if community saw more people offering concrit, standing up as betas or even writing their own fic if they don't see stuff they like. If people would rather curse the darkness than light a candle, I don't think they have grounds for complaint."
A comment that wasn't sneered from atop a high horse wouldn't have gotten the reaction you've seen, I guaran-damn-tee it.
