From the point of view of the ethics of voting at awards shows, you're encouraging the same amount of harm to persons whether it's self-inflicted harm or harm inflicted to others.

And frankly I'm really not comfortable with just writing off self-inflicted harm this much.

Nobody is writing it off.

No one is writing it off, they're just pointing out that it's not the same as inflicting harm on other people. Because it's not.

Personally, I'm very uncomfortable with anyone who thinks it's their business what other people do with their own bodies.

If you refuse to acknowledge someone's merits because they're starving themselves, and you think treating them negatively is going to "teach them" to eat how you think they should, that is no less fucked up than refusing to acknowledge someone's merits because they're overeating.

If you don't think Anne Hathaway deserved an Oscar because you don't think her performance merited it, cool, that's totally fair and very much your prerogative. But the actions she took to prepare for the role, which started and ended with her, are not a valid reason to deny her artistic recognition, and frankly I find your patronizing finger-wagging on the matter shady af.

This. Hollywood is fucked up for encouraging this kind of unhealthy behavior in it’s stars, we all know this. So what good does basically victim blaming Anne Hathaway do to speak out against the issue?
