Have you tried checking out 2017 production of Follies, OP? I hated every other Ben I've seen but I've found Philip Quast adds depth to the character and makes him so much more sympathetic. And just in general it's a gorgeous magical production and it made me love Follies.

hmmm, no I'll see if I can find a recording! My main frame of reference is the 2011 revival, so maybe it's that version (i even hated bernadette peters in that one)?

it was on YouTube until couple of weeks ago but got taken down, it's the National Theater proshot version that was in cinemas. It's my absolute favourite, Imelda Staunton, Janie Dee, Tracie Bennett, Philip Quast... i mean it doesn't get better than that

I'll try to find it! I kinda hate that most US people know Imelda Staunton from hp because she's great.

A friend gave me this link https://drive.google.com/file/d/1GkfE_-4jJoacvBOlCzWX9Nw0xEKlATxT/view?usp=drivesdk, hope that works? Oh Imelda is amazing and I hate that she's been mostly known for being in HP, she was a wonderful Sally and I loved her Mrs Lovett too.

I find I have to be in the right mindset for Sondheim, ALW I can just stick on.

I don't think anyone will ever do a new revival of my favourite Sondheim musical :( (A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum).

that was the first Sondheim I'd actually encountered (we were a "classically" educated catholic high school, so they felt it was an apropos video substitute when our latin teacher couldn't make it which.......lmao). I'm just glad we got a movie, but I agree we should get a revival. Did you want anything innovative or just like it is?
