I don't mind if actors break character at curtain call, because I'm applauding actors' work, not their character. I'm not booing at someone for playing a villain or whatever.

You are supposed to boo for the actor playing the baddie in a panto at the curtain call of one of those, boo and applaud at the same time in that case.

AYRT--I saw one in London one time I was there, but since it was after Christmas the theatre was nearly empty, and they're not really a thing in the US.
