Not the OP and this is my only comment in this thread--I'm cis, and apparently my T levels are normal for a cis woman, but since my late teens I've had brown-black beard and mustache stubble at night after shaving in the morning; I've never gone more than two days without taking it off, but occasionally I'll miss a stray hair that gets an inch or so long before I pull it.

Tldr; cis women can (unfortunately in my case, I hate mine) grow beards.

Idgaf about people's headcanons, especially not in comparison to how respectful of RL people's gender identities they are, which is the important bit.

Sorry, I should have been more clear. What I meant was that all trans men will surely experience an effect on their facial hair growth from taking T? I know we all have different facial hair growth levels at our bodies' unaltered hormone levels.

varies from person to person, beards are a fickle beast. entirely possible for a guy on T to not get more than some stray hairs for a loooong time

(Anonymous) 2021-12-26 06:30 am (UTC)(link)
...That was my point?

(Anonymous) 2021-12-25 11:25 pm (UTC)(link)
No one is saying cis women can't grow beards?

The issue is in assuming a cis woman's facial hair pattern bears anything but coincidental resemblance to a trans man's facial hair and basing a trans headcanon on that single detail as though it means anything. Look how OP phrases "his facial hair is like my AFAB facial hair" as though it's proof to back up her headcanon as though men with that facial hair pattern are more likely to be AFAB or trans. Which is simply untrue

Turn it around. Imagine if a male OP were saying that a female character's sparse mustache is like his, a cis man, and therefore his headcanon is that she's MTF AMAB, based on that one reason.

You'd question what kind of assumptions he's making and whether he knows cis women can have facial hair, wouldn't you? And whether he knows that some trans women have none? And whether he realizes that's not an indicator of anything but coincidence?

OP

I do not think it's the cut-and-dry issue you're assuming I do. I don't think having facial hair like that means you absolutely must be AFAB or are even most likely AFAB. I just know it's possible, because I have it and I'm AFAB. I don't think Simon MUST be AFAB because of how his facial hair works. It simply came to mind that he COULD be, and it became a headcanon. Headcanons don't need to be formed from careful assessment of what the most likely truth is. They can be formed as simply as, "Here's an idea. Let's go with that."

DA

Eh, I've seen headcanons based on a lot less. I see where you're coming from OP (well, as much as I can be without being familiar with the canon).

You can headcanon a character as trans without listing "proof" or "reasons that show they could be, based on comparisons to cis bodies" like you did in your secret here. Further comments below go into that more, and why how you did that here comes off badly.

This is a good thread for you to read. https://fandomsecrets.dreamwidth.org/2533544.html?thread=1077770920#cmt1077770920
