I didn't see Maleficent, so of course my mind jumped to those few Star Wars fans on Tumblr who insisted Kylo Ren was justified in killing Han Solo because clearly Han abused him. The evidence given was that... Kylo Ren killed Han Solo and must have had a reason for it.

I don't think it was a particularly widely held opinion but I still wanted to punch everyone who espoused it. I kind of love a good woobification myself, but lay off Han Solo. I have been in love with that asshole since 1977 and I'm not putting up with villainizing him to make some spineless murderous wretch look better!

(Ahem. Just watched a marathon of the original trilogy on TV so this was pretty close to the surface!)

That’s totally understandable! If they want to write a fic with that premise, sure. But what a ridiculously unfounded theory, just to woobify their favorite villain boy.

Yeah. My thought is that it must have been the opposite of fun to be Han and Leia's kid, because of their high profile post-Empire, but I can't see either of them as abusers.

Kylo killed Han Solo because he loved him, to try to solidify himself on the dark side. I understand maybe not picking that nuance up in TFA, but it's discussed several times in TLJ.
