The author of the secret does, and everyone else doing this bullshit. It's inherent in their intent. Are you new to humanity or something?

Most people prefer honest feedback on their fic. Thus is not that.

Am I new to humanity? Wow, that’s a weird comeback. So if I don’t agree that OP only leaves “I appreciate that this exists” kudos just to feel like a good person, which is clearly an opinion and not an objective fact, I must be new to humanity? Pretty sure every human that lived before AO3 was invented and implemented kudos was still a human, even though that would mean they wouldn’t be able to understand this secret on principle. It really is an opinion about whether OP is doing this to feel like a good person. Humanity is not based on opinion. It would still be debatably wrong, but “Are you new to the internet” would have made way more sense. (This has been another episode of me over-analyzing and splitting hairs over a simple comeback, wasting everyone’s time in the process.)

It’s fine to want honest feedback. But sometimes people either don’t want to read a fic, or can’t because of triggers, but still want to show that they appreciate the fics existence. It’s fine if you don’t like that, and feel that it’s meaningless. I don’t agree, I would still be happy with those types of kudos. Not as happy as more traditional kudos and comments, though. But I don’t spend for everyone.
