As long as it is equal opportunity (and filmed the same way for both rather than filming it as sexy women and wish fulfillment bodies for men), I'm very much for this.

tbh i agree

it was never bikinis and loincloths that were inherently the problem it was that only certain characters were sexualized for the flimsiest shoehorned-in ridiculous reasons like "magic" that somehow only applied to hot young women and nobody else, and every straight male creator was trying to pretend like it's totally in-world lore and wasn't objectification wink wink so clever while everyone else rolled their eyes

just sexualize everybody equally, recognizing that others may be attracted to things that do not make your pee pee hard and that's okay and possibly even a great way to reach a broader audience, slap a teen+ rating on whatever it is, and go on with your sexy bikini and loincloth selves

Sure sure.
pantswarrior: The characters of Vagrant Story don't understand pants. (vs)

Heck yeah. It doesn't even necessarily have to be nonsensical.

In my fandom, main character wears a leotard and chaps so you constantly get a nice shot of his buttcheeks if you play with the camera angled behind him. This actually makes sense because he's equipped for speed and stealth rather than safety (the unit he works for is fully aware they often do not come back from their missions). Having made his costume, I can confirm it's great for mobility.

Primary antagonist goes around topless. He's immortal. Takes a crossbow bolt through the heart (from the previously mentioned main character) in the intro, gets back up and bashes him over the head before pulling it out of his bare chest. He doesn't need armor, and presumably enjoys flaunting it (as well as the blasphemous tattoo covering most of his back).

One of the lesser but still viable reasons I give for pushing this game on people. Scantily-clad attractive men, and you even have perfectly reasonable explanations for it if you want them.

What fandom is this? That sounds awesome.

*points up* Yep, the game is Vagrant Story, and those are the two most prominent characters in the game. (I was so freaking happy to get those figures, probably the happiest moment of my last few years. :D)

Naturally many people shipped these two. I'm one of the few who doesn't, because of spoilery reasons and also the topless guy has a "friend" (and omg alllll the tropes, including my beloved loyalty kink). But no objections to it, and they're also just nice to look at independently if you lean that way. ;)

And I will note that I was completely unsurprised to have it confirmed that Akihiko Yoshida is an ass man, between Ashley here and Fran from FFXII.

I understand this, also want hot people in skimpy outfits to look at, and also think objectification is a problem in media regardless of gender, and also think you're never going to get as much beefcake as cheesecake and that annoys me.

(Anonymous) 2022-01-02 10:54 pm (UTC)(link)
+1, my objection to this as a superhero comics fan is the gendered application of the trope, not the trope itself.

(Anonymous) 2022-01-03 06:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Same! Tamaranian garb for everyone!

(Anonymous) 2022-01-02 11:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Hell yeah, so long as it's scanty implausible armor for all!

(Anonymous) 2022-01-02 11:37 pm (UTC)(link)
I like both sexy and non-sexy armor, (mostly because I think fully closed cool armor is sexy 👉👈) When in games, I like when you get to choose.

mostly because I think fully closed cool armor is sexy

I definitely agree with this. Or like.... a tight-fitting dueling outfit maybe...

(Anonymous) 2022-01-03 12:26 am (UTC)(link)
I like non sexy armour because I grew up watching far too many scantily clad ladies somehow defy the laws of physics despite their bits all hanging out and yet never fully able to escape the clutches of their armour. A nice blend of "sexy" and practical to me was Xena's outfit. (Like somehow Nina from Tekken could just always fight in those dresses or leather one-pieces? In those heels?! More power to you girl but I would surely stumble lol)

All that said, I'd be down for something incredibly cheesy and self aware and running with it that had everyone be oiled up beefs cakes and scantily clad everyone! And it's all making fun of itself too! That would be something I would enjoy.

That's pretty much Kill la Kill.

(Anonymous) 2022-01-03 02:48 pm (UTC)(link)
I always hear people suggest Kill la Kill as an example of "equality" skimpy outfits but I watched it and the screen time of female to male nudity/semi-nudity is still super skewed towards female.

(Anonymous) 2022-01-03 02:59 pm (UTC)(link)
But there is still a very large amount of male skimpiness, especially towards the later half. For anime, there’s a pretty significant amount, even if it’s not completely “equal”.

Thank you so much for making my secret!

(Anonymous) 2022-01-03 04:12 am (UTC)(link)
Right? I like it BECAUSE it's impractical and strange. I want to read fantasy when I read fantasy, not a historical re-enactment. All in on the hotness or go home.
