That's sweet, OP. I'm slowly reading the fics that were part of the last exchange I participated in. I've just been leaving kudos, but maybe I should leave comments as well.

Bless you anon, from the bottom of my heart. Seriously. This was the second year in a row where I participated in an exchange and my giftee could not be bothered to publicly acknowledge my fic. No comment, kudos, reblog, like. Oh, both times i got gushing replies to my "hey, in case you missed it, here's the link"-messages, but tbh those felt pretty hollow when they wouldn't say anything publicly, as if they would rather not want their names associated with my work. I know I'm not on a professional level, and I'm a nobody in this (huge, active) fandom, but I'm decent enough and always got feedback in my previous, smaller fandom. Imo leaving some sort of reaction on your gift is just common fandom decency. I know the fandom is so huge that people have more than enough to read and often don't feel the need to show appreciation to writers, especially ones they aren't friends with (or trying to be). It's nothing personal. They don't know me, and, again, I know from previous fandoms that my work isn't bad. But it is demoralising. Why even bother putting in all that effort when even the person I dedicated it to, I specifically catered to, who asked for it, won't give me some love?

Sorry for the rant. I'm half-asleep and this is probably barely coherent, but the second disappointment is still fresh, I'm so upset, and I don't have anywhere to air my grievances because even if I vague!complain anyone would be able to identify my giftees through the exchange and both were moderately big names with big circles of friends and followers to come to their defense.

I’m so sorry you’ve gotten such ungrateful giftees, nonny! :( It absolutely is fandom common decency to at least thank and acknowledge the person who gifted you something!

Honestly? I'd hate to be the recipient of that comment and kudo. Dishonest feedback seems really weird? Like, why would you? Why would anyone what that? If someone leaves a kudo or comment on my fic I hope it's because they actually enjoyed the story...

That's a weird conclusion for you to jump to.

For me, there's something good to every story and that's what I comment on.
