Update on the Ao3/Original Fic idea

So my brother is working hard to figure out how to work the Ao3 system. He's going to help me figure things out once he does and if I can figure it out I'm seriously considering trying to make an original works archive just because it'd be a cool project. If I can manage it , I might need mods and stuff.

Where do I go or advertise to find help?

I think, right now, you need to wait before you consider advertising. Think about how you want to run your tags. What's allowed, what isn't. What content warnings do you want. Age barriers? Languages? Make an outline of exactly what you picture the archive being and discuss that with your friends/brother. Do they think it works? Can they poke holes into your rules. Are there loopholes to go around? What kind of moderating system would you use? How would people contact you? Would you have a PM system? etc.

Don't leap right to advertising. It's the same as when someone starts a business--you need a business plan before anything else. What's yours?

Ok thanks. Yeah we're still talking and discussing what's possible and how we're gonna do this.

I just wanted to ask because it was recently discussed and might be in people's memory?

Bro and I talked and we decided that we may just try building a new skeleton/structure of a site that is more customizable than what a03's notes gave him. He said making something like that is what he was going to work on anyway and I would really love to just work with him as a project.

Ideally the tags I'd like to have would include LIMITED character tags and relationship tags for organizational purposes , as well as a mandatory story status type indication. It would be extremely easier to just start from scratch is what he's telling me

That's awesome. (I have heard distressing tales of the AO3 code. So, not surprised starting from scratch might be better. I am not a coder, so, I just leave well enough alone.) I have to agree with the above anon to definitely figure out a business plan. And if you're doing it for original works, you're going to want to you know, talk to original IP creators to figure out what they want or need. Poke about to different websites to see what seems to work/not work from a reader standpoint. (As a reader, wattpad is horrible. Like, I did an entire video on my channel about it. I really do prefer AO3's layout but I'm SUPER old fashioned.)

How could you have limited character/relationship tags for original fiction? In theory every story would have different characters/relationships.

What I mean is I'd put a cap on the amount of a particular tag so you don't have to scroll through walls of tags.
