When the Tokyo Ghoul manga was wrapping up, and the main (male) character ended up with the female lead, and someone literally left an angry comment somewhere on Tumblr about it with basically “How could you do this author?! I’m gay!!”. It’s like, I know the manga has a strong LGBTQ fanbase for it’s exploration of sexuality and gender in the supporting cast, and I’m gay too. But I know that the manga is not about me, so saying “But I’m gay” isn’t really a point. And it’s not a case where the audience was really queerbaited either(in my personal opinion). I get feeling disappointment with yet another cishet pairing being the main one(especially because some of the potential m/m and f/f ships, while fanon, were really compelling and cute, although so is the main pairing), but this person wasn’t expressing that, they were expressing some kind of personal betrayal they imagined the author somehow knowingly committed.
