I, too, loathe Mafia AUs, mostly because they either glorify it so they have a reason to be writing about it, somehow make a non-Mafia character mostly okay with a Mafia thug and/or Character A is a super-special sensitive snowflake who just can't cut the Mafia life and only Character B sees their super-special sensitive snowflake self and helps them 'escape'.

Usually with some scenes of abuse/rape/torture thrown in there, or a lot of Goodfellas type antics, none of which is remotely attractive to me.

One notable exception towhat you've described above that I'd like to nominate, is the Wincest fic 'this thing if ours' by Fleshflutter.
