I'd like to see that too, OP! Although I actually do like the EM/IF thing... I just get irritated when the inexperienced female is instantly a sex goddess after that first time (or, worse, DURING the first time).

Also, I'd love to see the hot male character that everyone in fandom is in love with either a) be really bad at it, or b) have a tiny dick. ...Or both, I suppose.

I don't normally read smut at all so I didn't know this was "a thing" with first time fics. I can see how that would get old fast. :P

I get it, but also, I could not feel more opposite.

Actually, you know, I think for me it's the specifics of the dynamic that determine whether it's my favorite thing ever or something I nope out of.

The Virgin Bottom/Experienced Top trope tends to turn me off when the narrative feels very focused on, and worshipful of, the top, while the bottom remains entirely passive and purely reactionary. The kind of fic where you suspect that the author is extremely attracted to the top, and doesn't really care about the bottom as a character, so much as just a vessel for self-insert purposes, to imagine getting their world rocked by their sex-god fave. Which is fine. There's nothing wrong with that. It's just not my thing.

But OTOH, there is nothing I love more than an extremely enthusiastic virgin bottom who is like, losing their mind because they didn't think they'd ever get to have the top, and now it seems like they might get to, and they are like, 'Oh my god put it in me, please please I will be riding you in 2.5 seconds if you say I can, what do you mean you need to prep me first, I want it NOW.'

And meanwhile the experienced top is feeling uncharacteristically out of control, like, 'Oh my god, please stop making me want to wreck you so fucking bad. I am trying to be gentle and careful and responsible here, how are you this much of a sex whirlwind?'

I get why some people just don't like the ET/IB trope across the board, but man, for me it's allll about the dynamic.

I don't hate virgin characters in canon, that just is what it is, but man do I wish fandom would do less of the 'shy, innocent, baby angel who doesn't know what genitals are, faints at the mention of sex and has to be coaxed into doing so with their partner(who's basically their parent)' and more 'horny, excited newbie wants to have a Good Time and does'. I guess for me it's all in the part of me finding enthusiastic consent* to be extremely hot, I like my faves wanting to have sex and being eager to do so while having fun. Also I feel like the former is absurdly OOC for most characters yet it's the no.1 characterization regardless of the character and it annoys me.

*Yes, yes, an overused phrase but it explains what I mean.

I read a lot of romance books. A lot. And this is my number one hated trope. The only exception that I will take is historical romances.

I really love the other kind of "first time" fics - where it's the first time for that pairing specifically and they're crazy hot for each other. But neither of them is totally inexperienced, they've both had other partners before, so they know what they're doing at least somewhat and nobody has to be walked through it like a n00b.

I tend to like stories where both characters are inexperienced, but it has to be written a certain way for me to enjoy it. Like both characters are a little awkward, but it’s clear that they’re having fun (bonus points if they’re trying to make each other laugh). It’s not fun if they’re not communicating and if they can’t even look at each other the next day because they’re both still embarrassed.

"First Time" tag?

I like just about anything honestly, but I once read a First Time Fic where the big buff macho man bottomed for his beloved shorter, younger, partner's first time. My heart melted, it was so romantic.

Wish it wasn't the only time I've ever seen that dynamic.

1 is such a huge issue for me with Nie Huaisang in The Untamed. The actor is doing a good job and all and a LOT of the problem is his terrible, terrible wig (he looks much better with short hair and his wig is especially badly done, look like it's far too big for his head) but he's just... not even remotely how I imagined him.

Goes so far that this, shallow as it might be, is the main reason I never really clicked with the drama.

Agree so much on this. I don't really do the fanfic side of fandom these days, but I still very much prefer text based space that are easy to follow.

How is everyone's weekend going?

I'm enjoying peace and quiet in my hotel room. I've already slept a ton. I'm currently eating a Panera lunch, and then I'm going to either sleep some more or use the hot tub in my room with some pine-scented bath salts I bought just for this trip.
