(Anonymous) 2022-01-09 10:03 pm (UTC)(link)The rhetoric of it just drawing back the curtain, is part of the rhetoric behind that change. It is self justifying nonsense. Most of what is now considered acceptable was not considered acceptable at all before 9/11. It was anathema, in fact, but the constant blaring of it supposedly somehow being acceptable afterwards has only served to gaslight people into thinking it was. Stop falling for it. Stop making excuses for it. Start pushing back against it.

(Anonymous) 2022-01-09 10:36 pm (UTC)(link)I'm old enough to remember what the US was like before 911, and yeah, 911 was really a sea change, and we all knew it then. We also knew that it would not be a change for the better. We need to push back against it, not just sit on our hands and whine about how it's always been that way.

(Anonymous) 2022-01-10 12:54 pm (UTC)(link)I was there for 9/11. I was there before 9/11. I live in America, and am uncomfortable every 9/11, with how the worst and loudest people make a big deal about it. It’s not about the innocent people and rescue workers that died anymore, if it ever was for these certain people. It’s just an excuse to revel in their over-patriotic jingoism, and was definitely an excuse to feel justified in their blatant Islamophobia and othering of people that don’t look like them or share their beliefs. They were always like that. This just gave them an excuse to be open about it. I know about the problems in this country. But it’s not a shitty country just because of the shitty people who have had the loudest voices for too long.
