Later knowledge can recontextualise prior knowledge. The revelations around Jimmy Saville didn't stop all the fun bits on Jim'll Fix It from having happened, but it sure as hell made it not fun to remember them no more. That is what a bad reboot does. That is why people say it taints their memories and no longer makes watching the old stuff fun. I know I can't watch the Icheb scenes in Voyager and feel happy about them no longer. Nor any old Who stuff since Moffat and ChibHim Hard In The Neckbnal shat all over it.

Maybe you could stop directly comparing remakes to sex offenders?

Just maybe?

If you want to be taken seriously, that is.

It makes it easier to grasp the principle at play if it is something very striking with no wriggle room, so no.

Escalating to ridiculous and inflammatory heights does not help. At all.

You twit.

You're just mad because you wanted to argue the principle, and now you get it and are upset you can't browbeat me over it. You understand that later negative knowledge of a property devalues prior memories. You're welcome.

DA

This is absolute nonsense. You’re a complete idiot, and you have no idea what you’re talking about. AYRT isn’t “mad”, you’re delusional. Nobody is trying to browbeat you. In fact, you’re the one who’s aggressively trying to force their views on people. As well as constantly trying to speak for everyone in regards to reboots, even when you speak for nobody. Even people who could agree to a point that a bad reboot made it a little harder to enjoy the original made a point to disassociate themselves from you with your comparing directors you don’t like to rapists.

I'm so glad things are ruined for you because you're a terrible person who trivializes the real harm people have suffered. More reboots!

(Anonymous) 2022-01-10 12:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Seriously, fuck off with this. It’s not even remotely true for the majority of people that reboots and remakes do this. Nobody agrees with you at this point, much less sympathizes with your whining, unless they’re already neck deep in confirmation bias.

And no, your insistence on using this shitty comparison because “It makes it easier to grasp the principle at play if it is something very striking with no wriggle room” doesn’t excuse it, or even follow any sound logic. It also doesn’t make it not an objectively bad and stupid comparison that makes you look like an asshole with a personal vendetta.
