I believe people are overreacting in regards to getting mad at people in the fandom. As if they have anything to do with how the author behaves? Like, I'm sure people who've had the books sitting on their shelves since 2007 and who still write fanfic for it are definitely the problem and not, like, the lady who actually said the shit. I miss when being in a fandom didn't automatically mean you were up the creators asshole and liked it.

Weird guilt by association shit going on. And yeah, such a massive massive franchise isn't going anywhere at this point it's grown beyond her though she still def profits off it. I just don't think attacking rando fans is really the way to make the world a better place.

Yeah, I love Buffy and Avengers and don't feel like I'm stroking Joss Whedon's...anything or signaling approval by enjoying these even though he's an asshole.

I bet people's dislike of Rowling's bigotry does have a small impact on book sales and merch, honestly, but she's already a billionaire and that's why she literally can afford to be a schmuck.

Yup. I wouldn't actively buy the stuff. I'm not going to want to give money to shit creators. But with a few extreme exceptions, it usually doesn't ruin my enjoyment, especially if the person is actually brought to justice for what they did.

I'm not into Potter anymore, but I started fading way before Rowling's transphobia outed itself. And there were honestly always questionable gender things in the books that as a reader I noticed (or sometimes didn't) and was annoyed and enjoyed the books in spite of that. So it wasn't entirely surprising to me.

DA. It's the new discourse.

At first it was "If you like dark/edgy humor, you're a bad person."

Then it was "If you like ~problematic ships~ you obviously espouse those views in real life and are a bad person."

It became "If you interact with anyone who has been canceled, you obviously espouse their beliefs and are a bad person."

Now it's "If you have ever liked this fictional world which has a problematic creator, you obviously agree with their views and hate ___" ___ can be trans people, abuse survivors, whatever happened be it the person be revealed to be a TERF or somebody got #MeTooed.

I usually see it with somebody being snide like "OH, so you still cling to that shitty wizard book? I guess you don't care much about trans lives, you fucking TERF."

I completely hate TERFs and have no interest in HP and still think this new discourse is shitty.
