(Anonymous) 2022-01-11 01:02 am (UTC)(link)I mean...we're in the middle of a global pandemic that's drastically curtailed a lot of people's social interactions, so yeah, probably there is someone out there who's doing this kind of thing out of loneliness. More power to them if they are.
But more importantly, did you just arrive in fandom yesterday? Deciding to eat some cake because it's a character's birthday isn't weird. People throw entire events for character birthdays. Or other significant canon dates. Or the anniversary of a work's release. Or the author's birthday. Or because "May the fourth be with you" amuses them. Sometimes in person with other people, sometimes online with other people, sometimes alone.
