Re: Teeny Rant

I think most of it is ignorance on the part of writers and executives who don’t live in poverty, or haven’t in a long time, and thus don’t understand them. It always seems like a lack of comprehension of what life outside of their wealthy lifestyle is like than some kind of hidden criticism of poor people. Unless the media is specifically about criticizing poor people, of course. I’m not saying the type of propaganda you’re talking about doesn’t exist, because it very much does, especially coming from right-wingers who are all about that “pulling yourselves up by the bootstraps” and “overcoming the poor mindset” crap. But I don’t think most of the examples listed in this thread are part of that. At least, not intentionally.

Also, there are protests about political things right now, including these issues. The internet is absolutely not “keeping people subdued”. It’s actually made people more aware of government tactics against the poor, and have made people who might have been ignorant to these issues more in tune with what other people are facing. I don’t understand at all why you think the internet is somehow keeping people “subdued”, that sounds like “the government is using technology to brainwash us into compliance” level conspiracy talk, honestly. And it doesn’t go with the rest of your comment, which is grounded in reality, and makes sense.
