Yeah, I find a lot of spices are worth the money because they can be used in so many different things. Chili powder and cumin and garlic powder and Italian seasoning and oregano are worth it because you can put those in a million recipes, for example. It's the super-obscure stuff that's only used in very specific things that isn't worth buying.

I actually love Japanese cooking because as long as you've got soy sauce, mirin, cooking sake, and dashi powder on hand, you can cook just about anything and if you get a big bottle then it lasts forever.
