1. Those Adam's apples LMAO wtf they're gonna take an eye out!

2. Idk. I found cattiness/mean stuff within female social groups when I was in middle school, but within actual friend groups, not really. Maybe it's also the kind of people one encounters? Hi drama people kind of find each other? Low drama people try to avoid that noise? IME, most female friend groups tend to be supportive, and I hope more people find that. When talking to make friends, it sounds more like there's more posturing involved? At least that was one guy's friend group. Across the board there was more physical aggression with the dudes though. YMMV.

I think it amounts to a lot of different factors: who are you and why are you friends with who you're friends with and what environment it is. People who are very ambitious in my experience and opinion are more likely to be catty and underhanded because even in purely social situations they apply their desire to "get ahead" there as well. Low pressure settings where there is no desire to do so people will be less likely to do that.

But like especially with school where it's the same place you're trying to be super good at (high grades, extracurriculars, etc.) and it's also a social setting for a lot of people then it gets mixed up and I think that's part of why so many kids can be absolute asshats when you add the immaturity on top.
