...I don't see how the description eliminates Yara Shahidi? Is this another 'people of color can't have auburn hair' thing? Because I really hate that shit.

Like, firstly it's false, secondly that is not the chosen actress's natural hair either. And nobody naturally has 'golden eyes.' Everybody knows that TV shows and movie utilize hair dye, wigs, contacts, and even CGI to change actors' appearance, but when somebody is described as having red hair suddenly they must be white. (See: live action Little Mermaid discourse.) It's stupid. /rant

Nah, it's because I can't read correctly late at night. Mistakenly misread cream colored and marble and somehow thought she was talking about complexion amongst all the other descriptors (also well aware you can still be a lighter skinned person of color because I am one). So no, it's not because of what you're talking about, because I know well auburn hair (and blonde for that matter) isn't limited by race. Also, please note my tone is not trying to come off as combative; I've personally never run into that "you can't have auburn hair" discussion online, much less IRL, but if you run into often (where are you even running into this?) I can understand how it's frustrating and annoying to explain.

As an aside, I'm glad it's Halle being the new Ariel and while I don't bother engaging in those discussions, the BS I've heard from come up in the "she can't be the new Ariel" (secondhand) is just beyond tiring (which is why I don't bother listening to it). I'm also mad they gave her a dopey looking prince, but whatever. It's Eric. My expectations weren't high to start.

Reading this back realizing I came off as aggressive, so I want to apologize about that, sorry. I don't want to add more negativity to anyone's day/life.

I don't think you were - mine definitely was aggressive because I thought you were talking about something else, so I apologize for that.

The Ariel/POC with red hair thing has come up on fandomsecrets & other places online more than once so I thought it was that tired thing again... but yeah, I'm rooting for Halle! And I hope you have a nice weekend too.
