FF8, Rinoa being Ultimecia. Even though the creators denied this theory it literally makes the entire game so much better & more interesting. There’s a ton of evidence for it, too. Shame it’s not canon!

This and that she/her powers unconsciously/involuntarily brainwashed Squall into falling in love with/obsessing about her after he becomes her knight. Because it just makes sense with how the very, very sudden Rinoa obsession sets in right after she wakes to her full powers and the game implies that the chosen knights turn kind of manic in their "must protect my witch" pursuits due to the bond they share (as happens with Seifer as well).
Mainly because the romance is so ridiculously badly written that I can't imagine any other reason for it going this way.
