I've seen it the most in LotR/LotR-inspired fantasy settings with dwarves and elves, but it's a frequent flier in many canons where you have a person/subgroup of people who are typically expected to live into their hundreds and beyond. And it's just... why? I get if you want to delay "coming of age" or "sexual maturity" or whatever to a later date. Coming of age is a societal thing, and it's partially based on how long the generation before you plans on being part of the action. Delayed sexual maturity makes sense from an evolutionary standpoint. Might as well wait until an individual is likely to be socially/physically/financially comfortable before they start popping out the babies.But making pre-puberty childhood last decades is stupid from both an evolutionary and a sociological standpoint.
